Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
We all have our memories of Thanksgiving, and most people say they love this holiday. It’s one of the few days we are all united in one overarching purpose, to give thanks, and we usually spend it with family or friends.
I’ve got good memories of Thanksgiving, but I also remember that not one time, but two years in a row, I cooked the turkey with the giblets inside, still in the bag. To say I’m not the best cook in the world is an understatement, but for your information, the turkey still tasted fine.
I think about those two turkeys every Thanksgiving. Along with giving thanks for all the blessings of my life — and they are too numerous to count! — I also give thanks for those two turkeys with the bags of giblets. They remind me that I’m far from perfect at cooking and in all other ways.
Yet I’m still saved. I’m still going to heaven. How can I know that? Because it’s not by works that I’m saved. I’m saved by God’s grace. That’s what I give thanks for on Thanksgiving Day more than anything.
In case you’re wondering … these days, I eat someone else’s turkey instead of cooking my own.
