Author Stacy T. Simmons has provided this uplifting guest blog post about God’s perfect timing.

To us humans, there’s never the “perfect” time for anything in our lives, especially the busy world of writing. As a parent of adult children, I began writing on the cusp of turning fifty. Both of our children were in college or graduating high school and entering college. My work as a Special Education Inclusion paraprofessional in a middle school was enjoyable, yet something still tugged on my heart. To put words to paper.

A little something about me-I’d put some scribbles on paper as a teen, no one saw them but me. Thankfully, they were drivel. College came and went, I married my wonderful husband of thirty-four years and we had kids. Fast forward many years and I was still working full time and I felt the “need” to write one day during work. It had to come from the Lord, as I was busy in a class at the time and hadn’t given writing much thought.

Unsure of how to begin, I reached out to one of my favorite Christian historical fiction authors via email and asked what she’d suggest. This kind woman quickly returned my email, to my fangirling heart’s delight, and suggested going to American Christian Fiction Writers local meetings. I signed up to attend soon after, and eight years later have been an active member in the local DFW chapter ever since. With writing friends, there have been some opportunities to attend the ACFW yearly conferences. All this treasured time helped strengthen both my faith and writing knowledge base. There’s always something to learn as we walk on the path toward our next story, I’m excited that with age there’s more patience, which is needed in this wonderful world of writing.

I’m thankful for God’s perfect timing, He knew I needed to mature and grow before writing. Now I’m ready for what He has for me, as long as I am walking with Him through it.
