Rachel’s Vineyard, an organization most people may not have heard of, helps post-abortive women and men to renew, rebuild, and redeem hearts broken by abortion.
I thank God I never had an abortion, but I know many women who have. Abortion is a complex and emotional decision, a choice that creates far-reaching and often unintended consequences. Some women I’ve talked with have been helped by Rachel’s Vineyard, and some have told me how their decision to abort affected them the rest of their lives. For these and other reasons, I financially support pro-life organizations, and my novels contain a thread of a message on this very important topic.
All this said, you can now imagine why I accepted the invitation to read An Abundance of Grace (Elk Lake Publishing, October, 2023), a novel that incorporates the issues surrounding abortion and adoption, so that I could write about it in this blogpost.
The book’s Canadian author, Doralyn Moore, has a wealth of experience in social services, and she draws on her acquired wisdom to write this novel whose characters address abortion and adoption, as well as the ripples these decisions can cause.
The book’s main character, Cassie, as well as her daughter, and another young woman named Lise, each have parts to play in this theme. A summary of the book is below, but let me add this book would be one to read for anyone who has a personal interest in the topics of abortion and/or adoption, and especially appropriate for anyone who is searching for hope and healing. It can be found.
Here are more details about the book …
Abundance of Grace
Author: Doralyn Moore
Genre: Contemporary Christian Women’s Fiction
When Cassie learns her daughter recently had an abortion while at university, old memories surface. At sixteen, she became pregnant and with a great amount of reluctance and soul searching, chose adoption for her baby. There is never a day when she doesn’t think about her daughter and wonder if she is happy and well.
Lise, the baby Cassie placed, was adopted by two loving parents. However, in spite of their love, she has feelings of abandonment and suffers from depression. Starting in her early teens, she turns to alcohol to cope with her negative feelings.
Although reluctant, Cassie senses an urging from her heavenly Father to search for her daughter. However, Lise does not want any contact with Cassie. But when she’s attacked and raped while drunk, things spin out of control and she calls her biological mother to help.
Through a long, slow process, they both come to know that for whatever bad choices they’ve made, God has provided an abundance of grace.
